Lawrence L. Weed, MD, creator of the PKC System, and originator of the widely known Problem Oriented Medical Record, has written an analysis of the role of information tools in the solution of the chronic, structural problems of the health care system, Empowerment in Health Care, as well as numerous other publications.

Information on the clinical application of the PKC and similar systems is available from the Health Commons Institute which promotes patient involvement in health care decision making and the use of computer tools.

Psychiatric Applications by Willie Kai Yee, MD
Using the PKC system development tools, I have produced seven Problem Knowledge Couplers including: These Couplers are now updated and maintained by the staff of PKC Corp. Other psychiatric Couplers have been written by PKC staff including Management of Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.

I am still in active clinical practice, and I use and evaluate Couplers in a variety of settings to insure their relevance and acceptability to patients. A chapter covering the application of Problem Knowledge Couplers in psychiatry is based on my experience and has been published in Mental Health Computing edited by Marvin J. Miller, Kenric Hammond, and Matthew Hile, Springer-Verlag , 1996.
